What a wonderful surprise today! We entered
the trailhead at Plummer at 7:30AM and cruised down rolling hills for the
first 12 km, then came to the shore of Lake Couer D’Alene. Jack and
I we so enthralled, that we were stopping every few minutes to take pictures.
Imagine a 100km ride on a bike path that was flat and everchanging scenery,
with the occasional rest stop in a small village. That was our day. I would
recommend the Trail of the Couer D’Alenes to anyone who likes an easy
bike ride. There are lots of trailheads, with parking lots. A lot of people
would park and cycle to the nearest village for lunch, then cycle back to
there car. We even ran in to on of our fellow VACC members from Vancouver,
Ron Richings. He was out for a ride on his recumbent bike. The last 10km
was a gradual uphill ride, so we didn’t make it to the motel in Mullen
until 7PM. It was a very old motel, circa 50’s, with no phone and
no cell service in the area. The only place open for supper was the local
tavern, which was filled with cigarette smoke and backwoods characters.
