We spent a good part of the morning exploring
the wonderful paved bike trails on both sides of the Columbia River. It
would have saved us a lot of time getting to the motel if we had known about
them. I think when I get back, I will try to get funding to train hotel
staff how to direct cyclists to Vancouver hotels. The trail eventually took
us out of town to hwy #28. The shoulders were wide, but the traffic was
still heavy. I got hit by a dust devil along the road. These are small dust
tornadoes that come flying out of the fields and cross the road. You don’t
get much warning s you have to hang on. I got my first flat in my Armadillo
tire. A big chunk of steel with a point end embedded in the tire. Took about
½ hour to change the tube. Then we hit a monster hill climb just
before Quincy. Stopped in Quincy to rest and eat some Mexican food. We reached
Ephrata about 6PM. I passed out on the bed for an hour before we snacked
for supper. I slept well the rest of the night.
