Madison,
WI - the Pro Walk Pro Bike 2006 Conference
2006-09-05 to 08
Finally…. Showtime!
I cycled down early to walk around the downtown
area and take some photos. They have these neat cow statues all around the
Capitol area. Jack & I met at another sushi restaurant for lunch. We
registered for the conference and enjoyed visiting with some of the exhibitors.
We had a great time meeting with many people at the welcoming reception.
It was a nice moonlit ride along the lake to get back to the hotel.
The opening speeches were really wonderful,
as well as the luncheon speeches. Mayor Dave was enjoyable. It was so nice
to listen to a mayor who is completely committed to building a city where
everyone can cycle safely. Gil Penalosa was an inspiration for all who strive
to improve cycling and walking facilities
It was so difficult to decide on what presentations
to attend. There were about 30 each day, but we could only attend 4 for
ach of us. We decided to each attend different ones to make to most use
of our time here.
One evening everyone was invited to cycle to
Planet Bike’s office for a nice little party. The only negative aspect
of that evening was the voracious mosquitoes. We were able to sample some
wonderful Wisconsin cheeses.
The final evening dinner was held at the University
of Wisconsin, with a beautiful view from the shore of Lake Mendota.
It was so wonderful to be able to meet so many
people from all parts of North America, who work tirelessly to improve cycling
and walking as forms of transportation. I hope to remain in contact with
many of them. If any of them are coming to Vancouver, drop me an email.
