We were on the road by 8AM. There was a
nice quiet bypass road that took us around downtown. We did run into a
busy section where large trucks were picking up and hauling asphalt for
freeway construction. After that, we had a quiet ride to Albert Lee. The
only problem was the pavement cracks were really bad. It was very hard
on the body and the bike. After going thru Albert Lee, we ran into a closed
sign on #46 to Austin. We asked one of the workers. He said the stripper
machine had broken down, so there would only be less than 1km of gravel
road. We proceeded without problem ad then had the highway pretty much
to our selves all the way to Austin. Austin is a pretty little city with
two lakes right downtown. The only bike paths went around the lakes so
they were not of much use to us. There were lots of people cycling around,
but they were mostly on the sidewalk. We even saw an older lady on a trike
bike.
