We stayed on the trail for the first few km,
but had to bushwhack our way through a fallen tree. Then we got on Hwy 244
to Mt Rushmore. It was a beautiful 15 km ride to Rushmore. Rushmore itself
was very disappointing. They have built a huge multi-story parking lot and
toll booths, plus a concrete fence. We decided to keep going and just take
some pictures from the road. It was a fast downhill ride to Keystone, then
a long uphill ride to hwy 16. From there, it was a rolling hills ride. We
did come upon an accident where an SUV had driven right over a motorcycle.
Not a pretty sight. After we checked in, we walked 2km to downtown for a sushi supper. It was not very encouraging to see the lack of cycling facilities. We saw a few people riding on the sidewalks. |
