We thought it was going to be
a short ride so we rode back 5 miles to check out the local bike shop
and pick up another patch kit. We decided to take the old highway for
awhile. After a long steep climb, the road just ended. Rather than go
back down, we unloaded our bikes and lifted them over the freeway fence.
The road was continually uphill and the afternoon was hot ( 93 F ). We
ran out of water and there was nothing but rolling hill. We were gratified
to see a rest area. The only problem was there was no drinking water there.
A young couple gave us a bottle of water, but the rest of the trip was
hot & dry, with still more hills. We were both exhausted when we got
to Hardin. Time for DQ ice cream! The short day was about 70Km in the
heat. |
