We were on the road by 8:30AM. The local
state trooper showed us a paved back road to use for the first 25 km.
It was scenic and quiet. Then it was back on I90. The good news was the
rumble strips were now parallel to the shoulder, and shallow enough to
ride across in an emergency. The road had several steep hills and it was
getting a way too hot. By noon it was 95 F ! We stopped in Alberton for
lunch, and another huckleberry shake in Frenchtown. By then I was totally
overheated. It was like riding along with a hairdryer blowing in your
face. A young local showed us a nice back road in to Missoula. By the
time we reached the outskirts, I had to stop and soak my shirt and cap
in cold water. After downing a bottle of cold water, we made for the motel
downtown. At last a city with some bike lanes. We arrived at 4PM. After
a short respite we walked around downtown and found a sushi restaurant
for supper. It was not too bad either. Missoula is a university city so
there were lots of coffee shops and food places. We expressed interest
in an unusual bike in front of one coffee shop. Steve, the owner of the
bike, said it was a Pederson bike from Denmark. 9 – speed internal
hub gears. Check out the website:

Thanks for the nice visit and all the local info Steve.
