Foreword

Well, it is time again for the bicycle and I to be steady companions for the next two months. I am ready to leave. I want to leave.

Will be riding this one with John Fair. A new experience for me to be doing the whole trip with another cyclist. Normally, I would spend the most of the time by myself. Sometimes I would be joined by my partner for a few days. Even sometimes for a week or two I would join a touring club that I belong to. This time, we will leave Vancouver BC and cycle to Madison Wisconsin and then on to Chicago together.

Usually, the last two or three days before a trip are filled with apprehensions. What if this or that goes wrong? What if the weather really does not cooperate? What if the bike breaks down? How many flats am I going to have? I truly despise changing flats. That is my thing. And so on the thoughts go. Why, I have not idea. Having spent many a days for long periods on the road, there is no logical explanation for feeling this way.

But not on this trip. Just want to get going. When the trip start was delayed by one day I really wanted to be on the way.

So, now I am.
