Thoughts
for the Day
|
|
 |
|
Another great day for cycling in the morning
to the convention centre. The organizers provided for indoor parking. You
need to know where it is to get there so that provides some additional security.
To get to the convention floor meant walking through employee areas. Guess
that provides some level of security there as well, ha ha.

Inside the convention floor and outside, the
ironman event is being set up. Apparently this serious event that draws
the Hawaiian ironmen goes on Sunday. We could see them training swimming
parallel to the path in the lake. Also, I was told today by another conference
goer that accommodations are at a premium for this weekend as there is a
football game in town this weekend. I assume that it is at the University
of Wisconsin that is about 2 km from the State legislator and the conference
centre. In addition to that State St was closed off today in preparation
for the Wednesday night jazz event. Nice to have a street which serves the
community for more than just transportation.

The conference centre and the blasting air condition
did its trick on me. Good thing that I signed up for a bike tour of facilities
this afternoon. I would have had to get out from the centre by that time.
The sinuses just could not stand any more of that air conditioning. No way
could I go to another event this evening indoors so passed by the Planet
Bike happening. Still have a sinus headache now. Sure drops any productivity
or desire.

I did join others on the ride back to the motel
this evening as they were going the same way to the evening event. In mass
we rode just after rush hour, maybe it was late rush hour. The path system
along the lake needs capacity expansion. It was as full as it should be.
With traffic (cycling) in both directions to what the path can hold, we
made our way along it. I kept looking forward to when we would get on a
residential street and could relax a bit.

Cycling into Milwaukee |
|
|
| |
|
Cycling into Milwaukee really started in Dodgeville
some 200 kilometres to the west. From there, most of the trip was on bike
trails with occasional sections on roads. Many of these roads had a low
volume of motorized vehicle traffic. Some had paved shoulders. Others did
not. Some of the trails were interconnected. Others were not and required
some road cycling.

Today, the trip included the Capital City State
Trail and the South West State Trail.
