Thoughts
for the Day
John's Birthday
Picking up his birthday present, while making
his contribution to a clean environment.
Flat Tire Competition
Today under a hot afternoon sun, John strengthened
his lead in this competition to 5 to 1. We wish him well in winning the
flat tube award. Another piece of steel from a rethreaded tire on the shoulder
gave John the edge.
Oil Wells
There is oil in these hills, Work underway to
expand the extrusion system.
Road Menu Today
Fresh rabbit with sometimes magpies and skunk
on the side.
An early start. 115 km to do.
Pleasant weather, cloud cover with a NNW supportive wind.
John’s type of weather.
Leaving town.
First hill to climb.
Followed by long downhill.
Ridge riding for the first hour or two.
High plateau riding thereafter.
Long downhill first.
Followed by long uphill.
Long usually means 2 to 3 kilometres.
Vertical grades in the 6% range with occasional more challenging sections.
The clouds disappear around 11:00 am. The sun
blazes down in 30 degree Celsius weather. Time to get to the destination
and out of the heat.
Unlike Buffalo, Gillette seems to e another
over-car oriented town with no special appeal.
